Old Fashioned Dressing

Some call it dressing, while others call it stuffing. Either way, you'll call it delicious! Enjoy this old fashioned dressing with your next holiday meal or as a family-friendly side dish. Ingredients

  • 8 slices whole wheat bread, cubed
  • 4 tablespoons margarine or butter
  • 2 cups celery, diced
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/4 cup mushroom, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon ground sage
  • 3/4 teaspoon poultry seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 cups low-sodium chicken broth (or turkey)

Method

  1. Wash hands with soap and water.
  2. Toast bread cubes and set aside for later use.
  3. Melt margarine or butter in medium size fry pan.
  4. Add celery and onion; cook until tender, about 10 minutes.
  5. Add parsley, mushrooms, seasonings, and broth.
  6. Cook for 5 minutes.
  7. Remove from heat and add the toasted bread cubes.
  8. Cover and let stand 10 minutes.
  9. Serve immediately.
  10. Refrigerate leftovers within 2 hours.
