Slow Cooker Cabbage and Sausage

Ingredients

  • 1½ lb (700 g) smoked sausage or kielbasa, sliced
  • 1 medium head green cabbage, chopped
  • 1½ lb (700 g) baby potatoes, halved
  • 3 carrots, sliced
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 cups chicken or beef broth
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 bay leaf

Method

  1. Layer the potatoes, carrots, onion, and cabbage in the bottom of a slow cooker.
  2. Add the sliced sausage on top and sprinkle with garlic.
  3. Mix the broth, melted butter, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, thyme, garlic powder, salt, and pepper, then pour over the vegetables and sausage.
  4. Tuck the bay leaf into the mixture.
  5. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours, until the vegetables are tender.
  6. Remove the bay leaf before serving.
