Cowboy Butter Sausage Pasta

Ingredients

  • 1 lb smoked sausage, sliced
  • 12 oz cavatappi pasta
  • 2 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1½ Tbsp Kinder's Cowboy Butter Seasoning
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • Pinch of chili powder
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 5 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup shredded Parmesan cheese
  • Juice of ½ lemon
  • Crushed red pepper, optional

Method

  1. Cook sliced sausage in a large pot or skillet over medium-high heat until browned.
  2. Stir in garlic, Dijon mustard, cowboy butter seasoning, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, and black pepper; cook about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Add the dry pasta and chicken broth, then bring to a simmer.
  4. Cover and cook, stirring occasionally, until pasta is almost tender.
  5. Uncover and continue cooking until pasta is fully tender and most of the liquid has been absorbed.
  6. Lower the heat and stir in heavy cream, cheddar, and Parmesan until the sauce is smooth and creamy.
  7. Mix in the lemon juice and adjust seasoning to taste.
  8. Remove from heat and let the pasta rest a few minutes to thicken before serving.
