Ingredients
- 1 lb smoked sausage, sliced
- 12 oz cavatappi pasta
- 2 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- 1½ Tbsp Kinder's Cowboy Butter Seasoning
- ½ tsp paprika
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
- Pinch of chili powder
- Black pepper, to taste
- 5 cups chicken broth
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- ½ cup shredded Parmesan cheese
- Juice of ½ lemon
- Crushed red pepper, optional
Method
- Cook sliced sausage in a large pot or skillet over medium-high heat until browned.
- Stir in garlic, Dijon mustard, cowboy butter seasoning, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, and black pepper; cook about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add the dry pasta and chicken broth, then bring to a simmer.
- Cover and cook, stirring occasionally, until pasta is almost tender.
- Uncover and continue cooking until pasta is fully tender and most of the liquid has been absorbed.
- Lower the heat and stir in heavy cream, cheddar, and Parmesan until the sauce is smooth and creamy.
- Mix in the lemon juice and adjust seasoning to taste.
- Remove from heat and let the pasta rest a few minutes to thicken before serving.
