Breakfast Smashburgers with Sausage Gravy
6 servings · 15 min prep · 25 min cook · The Backyard Palate
Ingredients
- 12 sausage patties (completely thawed)
- 6 muffins or biscuits
- 6 slices cheddar cheese
- 6 eggs
- Bacon bits
- 1 packet Country Gravy mix
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 lb ground breakfast sausage
Method
- Preheat a griddle to about 450-500°F and coat with a high smoke point oil like avocado oil to get a good crust on the patties.
- Place sausage patties on the griddle and smash flat, cooking about 2 minutes per side, then set aside.
- Grease large canning lid rings and place on the griddle. Crack an egg into each ring, break the yolk, and season with salt and pepper.
- In a separate area, cook the ground breakfast sausage over medium heat until browned, then remove.
- Whisk the country gravy mix into the milk over heat until thickened, then stir in the cooked sausage. Add more milk if the gravy is too thick.
- Assemble each sandwich with gravy, a sausage patty, an egg, another patty, cheese, bacon bits, and a final spoonful of gravy on the muffin or biscuit.
