Twisted Cinnamon Rolls

Ingredients
- 500g bread flour
- 230ml warm milk
- 1 egg
- 25g sugar
- 1 tsp dry yeast
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 80g melted butter or neutral oil
- 170g softened butter
- 150g brown sugar
- 2 tbsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp vanilla (optional)
- 85g butter
- 140g cream cheese
- 120g powdered sugar
- 1 tbsp heavy cream
Method
- Combine dough ingredients and knead for about 12 minutes until soft, smooth, and slightly sticky.
- Cover the dough and let it rise for 1 hour, until doubled.
- Mix softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and optional vanilla to make the filling.
- Divide the dough into 10 balls and roll each into a 6-inch circle.
- Spread the cinnamon filling over half of each circle, fold over, then cut and twist to shape.
- Brush the shaped rolls with a mixture of beaten egg and a splash of milk.
- Bake at 350°F for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown.
- Beat together butter, cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla, and heavy cream to make the frosting.
- Serve rolls warm as is, or drizzle with cream cheese frosting.
