Cheeseburger Melt Sandwich

Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb (225g) ground beef
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onions
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt & black pepper to taste
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 4 slices of sourdough or brioche bread
  • 1 tbsp mayo (optional)
  • 4 slices of American or cheddar cheese
  • 1 tbsp butter (for grilling)
  • Pickles or cooked mushrooms (optional)

Method

  1. Cook the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat with the chopped onions, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until browned and fully cooked. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Spread butter or mayo on one side of each bread slice.
  3. On the unbuttered side of one slice, layer a slice of cheese, the cooked beef mixture, another slice of cheese, then top with the second bread slice, buttered side facing out. Add pickles or mushrooms if using.
  4. Grill the assembled sandwich in a skillet over medium-low heat until both sides are golden and crisp and the cheese has melted.
  5. Let the sandwich rest for a minute before slicing and serving hot.
