Ingredients
- 1/2 lb (225g) ground beef
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onions
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt & black pepper to taste
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 4 slices of sourdough or brioche bread
- 1 tbsp mayo (optional)
- 4 slices of American or cheddar cheese
- 1 tbsp butter (for grilling)
- Pickles or cooked mushrooms (optional)
Method
- Cook the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat with the chopped onions, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until browned and fully cooked. Drain any excess fat.
- Spread butter or mayo on one side of each bread slice.
- On the unbuttered side of one slice, layer a slice of cheese, the cooked beef mixture, another slice of cheese, then top with the second bread slice, buttered side facing out. Add pickles or mushrooms if using.
- Grill the assembled sandwich in a skillet over medium-low heat until both sides are golden and crisp and the cheese has melted.
- Let the sandwich rest for a minute before slicing and serving hot.
