Philly Cheesesteak Casserole

Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 medium yellow onion (finely diced)
  • 1 large green bell pepper (diced)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 2 cups shredded Provolone cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Mozzarella cheese

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat, then drain excess fat. Add the onion and bell pepper and cook until softened.
  3. Stir in the garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and oregano; cook for about a minute, then mix the beef back into the vegetables.
  4. In a saucepan, melt the butter and whisk in the flour. Slowly pour in the milk, whisking until thickened, then stir in the provolone and mozzarella until melted and smooth.
  5. Mix half the cheese sauce into the beef mixture and spread into the prepared baking dish. Top with the remaining cheese sauce and bake 20-25 minutes until bubbly and golden.
