Soft Homemade Cinnamon Rolls

Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2¼ tsp active dry yeast
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 egg yolk
  • ¼ cup melted butter
  • 3½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp cinnamon
  • ¼ cup softened butter
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • ¾ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1–2 tbsp milk

Method

  1. Combine warm milk, yeast, and sugar; let sit until foamy, about 5-10 minutes.
  2. Mix in the eggs, melted butter, flour, and salt; knead until the dough is smooth and soft.
  3. Cover and let the dough rise for about 1 hour, until doubled in size.
  4. Roll the dough into a rectangle, spread with softened butter, then sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon.
  5. Roll the dough up tightly and cut into 9-12 rolls.
  6. Arrange the rolls in a greased pan, cover, and let rise 30-45 minutes until puffy.
  7. Bake at 350°F for 22-25 minutes, until golden.
  8. Beat together the cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk to make the glaze, then spread over the warm rolls.
