Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 cup salted butter
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips

Method

  1. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring frequently, until it turns golden brown and smells nutty; remove from heat and cool about 20 minutes.
  2. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  3. Mix the cooled brown butter with both sugars until the texture resembles wet sand.
  4. Beat in the eggs, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  6. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  7. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  8. Cover the dough and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to let the flour hydrate and flavors develop.
  9. Scoop dough into 3-tablespoon portions onto parchment-lined baking sheets.
  10. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until the edges are lightly golden and the centers look just set.
  11. Optionally sprinkle with flaky sea salt while still warm before serving.
