High-Protein Low-Carb Philly Cheesesteak Casserole

Ingredients

  • 1½ lbs (680 g) lean ground beef or thinly sliced sirloin
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 8 oz (225 g) mushrooms, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 4 oz (115 g) low-fat cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup low-fat cottage cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 6 slices provolone cheese
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (optional)

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F and lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Brown the beef, breaking it into crumbles, and drain excess fat if needed.
  4. Add onion, bell peppers, mushrooms, and garlic; cook 5-7 minutes until tender.
  5. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, smoked paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  6. Lower heat and mix in cream cheese and cottage cheese until smooth and creamy.
  7. Transfer mixture to the prepared baking dish, top with mozzarella, then arrange provolone slices on top.
  8. Bake 15-18 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Broil 2-3 minutes for a golden top, watching closely to prevent burning.
  10. Garnish with parsley and serve hot.
